BTU Fuel Consumption Per Hour

To calculate your fuel consumption per hour per type of fuel use the calculations below.

BTU's  x 0.098 / 100  =  Cubic Feet of Natural Gas per Hour

BTU's x 0.293   =  Watts per Hour

BTU's x 0.010176 / 1000 = Gallons of Propane Gas per Hour

Area of Structure - This is the total square feet of exposed surface area (this is not length x width) your structure has (don't include floor). To find out the area of one of our greenhouses or any other greenhouses, click here
Minimum Outside Temperature - You will want to enter the lowest temperature expected for your area. Not sure? Take the minimum temperature from your area in the last 2 or 3 years and subtract 10 degrees to be on the safe side.
Maximum Inside Temperature - This is the highest temperature you would want to maintain in your greenhouse.
Heat Loss Value - Check the list below to find the heat loss value for the covering used on your greenhouse. Some values may vary with manufacturer. If you know the R-value of your covering, you can convert it to a heat loss value using this formula: Heat loss value = 1 / R-value.

Minimum BTU Needed - This is the minimum amount of BTU output the heater you use should have. If the heater only has a BTU input rating, use the following formula. BTU output = (heater efficiency) * (BTU input).
